Weekend Garden Jobs
Happy new year albeit slightly late!! – Providing you’re not snowed in here are some things to do in the garden.
Turn your compost bin.
Dig the borders and if you have your own compost incorporate some of the well rotted stuff to improve the soil structure – however, I wouldn’t recommend doing either of the above in the rain!
Winter prune apple and pear trees.
Winter prune your wisteria cut back to two/three buds from the main stem.
Check autumn sown sweet-peas and stored dahlia tubers.
Plant bare-root trees, shrubs and roses.
Sow geraniums and begonias for summer bedding – these can be grown in a pot on a warm sunny windowsill.
Summer perennials can also be sown now these include hollyhocks, lupins and dwarf delphiniums.
If it’s too cold to get outside why not plan your garden for the year ahead instead.
