Jobs in the Veg Patch

Plan your veg garden for the year ahead making sure you rotate the beds.

Cover empty beds with cardboard, old carpet or polythene as this helps to warm the soil ready for seeding.

Winter prune gooseberries and currants.

If you are growing winter brassica’s check for dead leaves and remove asap as they can rot off causing mould.

Plant new fruit trees and bushes.

Continue winter digging – but keep off the soil if it is very wet!

Force rhubarb.

Harvest – winter cabbage, cauliflower, kale, leeks, parsnips, sprouts, celeriac and swede.
